EuroTariff Warning for Wireless Web Users

Last month an EU ruling limited how much providers can charge for 'roaming calls' i.e. those call made whilst abroad

Last month an EU ruling limited how much providers can charge for 'roaming calls' i.e. those call made whilst abroad.  At the moment users are charged between 50p to £1.50 to make calls and are also charged to receive them. The new legislation cuts the maximum charge for European calls to 33p a minute and to just 16p per minute to receive calls.

However....providers do not legally have to offer the EuroTariff until the end of August, and guess what ? Other than Orange and O2 not other providers have introduced it, preferring to have one last capitalisation on the general public whilst on holiday in 2007 - don't you just love companies who are already knee deep in rich profits that cannot resist turning the screw on their existing customers.

Another thing...if a customer does not tell their provider that they want to be transferred they will have to wait until the end of September to receive the lower rates. Great, so rather than opting in their customers to receive the lower tariff most of the mobile companies are quite happy to charge you more unless you pick up on it...

..my advice...phone your operator and tell them you want to opt into the new EuroTariff..follow it up with an email..and if you happen to be with a provider that is not Orange or O2 then remember you can always transfer your telephone number to a new provider..this is pretty painless and the best way of letting the operator know what you think of them...

A new free application "PBC-Eurotariff" for SmartPhones ( symbian os) ,can assist those who are traveling aboard.

The application is a real time cost control of mobile charges based on roaming 'Eurotariff' regulation.

The EU citizens traveling or business abroad within the EU use PBC-Eurotariff to control their communication cost.

Happy New Year
